Routing of traffic?

HEy guys:

A bridge has to broadcast frames in order to learn where a node is if you like and what port etc. Once it knows any other frames for that MAC address will be sent to that one node through a single port - no longer broadcasting

No my question is, I read up somewhere that this is not how switches nor routers do it? or is it that switches do this and routers don't, either way, how is it a router would learn where a host is if it doesn''t broadcast the packets sent to it for a specific IP initially?
