Clarification of WHM + CSR + SSL Cert purchase/install
I have WHM and CPanel and as I understand things I need to:
a) Use WHM 'Generate an SSL Certificate and Signing Request' to generate the CSR.
b) Purchase the Cert and send (email) them the CSR
c) Use WHM 'Install an SSL Certificate and Setup the Domain' to install the Cert I get emailed to me.
My questions are. Re. a) do I use a Password or leave it blank? I've read some posts here which indicate this can be a problem and I'm not sure what to do.
Some posts talk about using a subdomain: secure.mydomain.com What is the reason or benefit for doing this?
Does the decision to use a subdomain need to be made up front when purchasing the Cert and generating the CSR?
I'm not hosting with ev1servers. Is there anything I need to take into account because of this.
FYI I want the Cert for my customers with online credit card purchasing. I'm moving from a host where I their shared cert to my own VPS.
