Technology to use for a big chat?

I'm planning to open a chat that should handle 200-300 users online.

I have server

Dual Xeon 2.4 Ghz
1Gb RAM

What technology should I use for the chat? Can PHP+MYSQL handle that?

Is there any solution or product that can fit my needs?
