Tomcat

I try to install tomcat to my server to got error

root@meera1 [/usr/local/jakarta-tomcat-5.0.19/bin]# ./startup.sh
The JAVA_HOME environment variable is not defined correctly
This environment variable is needed to run this program
NB: JAVA_HOME should point to a JDK not a JRE
root@meera1 [/usr/local/jakarta-tomcat-5.0.19/bin]#

I try every think, i can not get think to work. please help me out there Tomcat
