MySql Server Problem

i made a small mistake when seeting the root password.

i went to ev1 forums and found a how-to to change it, it work great.

and all my DB files work fine.

but when i restart the server

shutdown -r -t 1 now well u know what it is.

when that done

i get the same error

Code: 
Error connecting to MySQL server 'localhost' or accessing database 'ps_stats' using username 'root'

MYSQL Error: Access denied for user: 'root@localhost' (Using password: YES)
what am i doing wrong?
