24/7 Live webcam streaming? How?

I know the camera is creating a file on the hard drive and if you close the file you can loop it but that isn't quite live is it... plus that file will grow huge pretty quickly.


So what if you want a 'live web cam'? Do you let the camera go for a set period of time, then close the file and open another and meanwhile, a second process is reading the file, buffering it and making it available for streaming and replacing some file that has a URL link on a webpage with these 'segments'?


How do you run a 24/7 webcam streaming server: dangerous minds want to know!
