Upgrading many forums at once?

Evening folks (well it's evening here).

I have currently 4-6 forums on my server and I need a way to upgrade them all (something automated). They're all phpbb. Also I wonder how those "host your forum here for free" hosts do it, I mean upgrading like 200 forums at once.

Any input on this matter?
