Is there such a thing as free SSL?

I don't want to pay some company $50 a month for their little SSL logo protected sign. I'm not accepting credit cards on my site so i'm not too worried, just would be nice for people filling out forms to feel safe about putting their name and address.

Are there any webhosting companies that offer free SSL? My host says something about SSI, no idea what that is though. I'd ask them but their tech support system is down for who knows how long.
