Domain confusion :s

Hey guys, im new to the webhosting stuff and was jsut wondering if i can get some help with domains and stuff.

i have a re-seller, and when i set up an acount with a domain and then when i try visit that domain it doesnt work out

any help? also i think the person that gave me the re-seller said i can do unlimited domains, im guessing most people can do that? so why do people charge for domains?
