Exim wont deliver the goods

I having a few problems with exim. The conf I had for it was working fine for ages until a few minutes ago. I now get:

LOG: MAIN
== user@domain.com R=lookuphost defer (-1): host lookup did not complete

When trying to deliver a message. I have checked /etc/resolv.conf and all is set correctly, I also commented host_lookup in /etc/exim.conf which did not seem to work. Restarting exim does not do the job either.
Any ideas on whats wrong with it?

EDIT:
I reinstalled exim, by /scripts/exim4 - it did not make a difference
I also ran /scripts/reseteximtodefaults - that didn't work
