Dell powerconnect 3000 switch, Read before you buy

Colleagues,

Although in the past we have been a big proponent of Dell hardware, we
recently had an unfortunate experience with Dell's PowerConnect 3000
Series line of managed switches.

Ultimately, Dell's technical support team could not get the switch to
work to the advertised specifications, and would not take the switch
back because the technical support process took longer than 30 days.
Additionally, the documentation provided for the 3000 line is
surprisingly poor. It leaves out entire sections, and includes
configuration examples that are incorrect.

Dell has finally (and politely) let us know that they will not allow us
to return the switch. We've already invested more in time trying to get
the device to work than the device is worth, and there is no advantage
for us in pursuing this any further.

However, I can let my technical colleagues know about this problem, and
that we would recommend against investing in Dell's PowerConnect
switches.

Please share this email freely.
