Ezzi + game servers + ospf on routers
This isnt an email to blast Ezzi. This is just a technical question that I dont think they have the answer for that it seems to be the problem to me and I want some more input so I can make some more suggestions to them in a trouble ticket i guess...Heres the deal. p4 2.8ghz. 512mb ram. 2 Counter Strike servers on the box.
(this is happening on 3 separate boxes)
The servers ping fine. Ingame pings are fine. At random times the ping will jump about 50-100ms other times its fine. Using hlsw shows random timeouts on the server graph. Customers complain about playing and the server just lagging out for periods of time. Its not lack of memory on the box. I have tracked that. Its not cpu usage either. Its not player settings.
Getting some info from ezzi techs I learned the routers are all running OSPF to shape the traffic coming thru. Example, ping their routers and sometimes they reply and sometimes they dont if the networks busy, or the router will show high latency because it waits till the important traffic has passed to respond to the ping request.
With game server traffic being UDP oriented im wondering if the OSPF isnt set up correctly on the routers or if they are intentionally setting it up this way to delay gaming traffic, i dont know. Does anyone have any ideas? Ive lost customers on their network because of this. Alot of customers. Using the same cs server setups I use on NJ at nac.net, I cant keep losing customers but the price point is good if they could just fix their damn network lol.....
