.htaccess not working. need help!

I'm running on Linux 7.3 and my .htaccess is not working on my server for some reason. I'm simply using the IndexIgnore * in the .htaccess file to not list files in my directories...but it doesn't seem to take any effect.

What are possible ways I can fix this?
