need some advice on securing server
I'm not a linux admin or anything close to that but I want my linux box so that I can host some images and videos on it. It will be a music site. I will host my site(database, web papes, etc.) on a quality vps and images and videos on the box that I rent.
I decided to use thttpd for this purpose. The question is that if I close all the ports, uninstall or remove all other services, install firewall, tripwire and other common things, can I pull it off. My theory is that since there will be nothing working on the machine except thttpd I will be more secure. I don't plan to buy cpanel or any other control panel.
And also, does thttpd has any hotlinking functions? Can I prevent others from linking my files? I have searched a bit but couldn't find any answer to this problem.
