VERY Slow FTP

I'm having a little problem with uploading files to my RaQ 550 on my local network.

For the first few files, it uploads really quick but then it gets VERY slow and uploads one file every 10-30 seconds. I have about 4000 files to upload, and if the server wants to take a 10-30 sec lunch-break between each file, I'll be dead.

Has anyone else had this problem and how did you fix it?
