2 Name Servers, 1 IP, 1 Machine

I recently ordered a virtual private server (VPS) and it comes with one IP address. I configured dns and got ns1.mydomain.com to work but ns2.mydomain.com will not.

Has anyone else ever tried to put 2 name servers on one machine with one ip address. If not, is there a cheap way to get a second name server? I'm paying $20 a month for the vps and I don't want to pay another $20 a month just for an ns2. I really want to be in control of my name servers because I have the zone set to resolve any domain. I want to be able to simply point new domains I register to ns1 and ns2 without having to contact my hosting company each time to have them add them to their own zone file.

Please give me some advice.
