IIS 6 multiple sites host headers

I have setup apache on Windows before and its easy to have multiple site by just by using directory listing to access them. I have been trying to use IIS win 2003 to try and create an ASP php development environment.

I setup several websites/folders with bogus domains and used host headers but IIS only recognises its default. There is apparently something in DNS I am missing but what? I do not want to run my machine as a DNS server.
Basically have sites all on 1 ip with port 80
ie 192.168.254.50 using port 80
giving each a host header
then to access put in domain name in addr ala localhost but using
mabo.com
postnuke.com
aspstore.com
each for a development website/folder.
