Removing windows web-server

Recently I've been trying to setup Apache on my computer (Which is no problem, I've done it many times before); but for some reason, whenever I try to go to http://localhost, it pops up with windows server/IIS (.asp site, with a pop up).

Well, that was the case - I shut down a few services, and now the only thing that loads is a 404 page - apache says its running fine, I've tried restarting, reinstalling, etc. - nothing works, just a constant 404 page.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? What services need to be running in order to have Apache running correctly on Win XP? (I only shut down IIS-related services, and native windows hosting services)

Assuming I get it to work again, how do I uninstall (horrible) IIS?
