Is NT4 still good after 1 Jan 2005?

Hi,

I'm running NT4 web servers. I buy the NT4 licenses on E-Bay since they are affordable (I pay on average $100 USD for them), and they run the websites very well. I have no problem with NT4, but I am worried about the dropping of security patches from Microsoft at the end of 2004.

I am assuming Microsoft is a good company and they wouldn't sabotage their own platform, but it makes you wonder if there are some dubious hackers who have found a juicy new exploit through port 80 and are just waiting until MS officially decommissions NT4 before spreading it and crippling the remaining NT4 servers on the 'net.

Are my fears shared in this community? I hope I am overreacting... otherwise to buy Win2000 licenses will cost me up to $1800 AUD or about a grand US and I'm currently running 3 web servers that are "live". Eventually yes, I'll get into 2000 or 2003, but hopefully when the licenses become more affordable. At the moment, that would be a very big investment and I'd need to be sure I do or don't need to make this jump before next year.

Cheers!
