Everything on one box
I'm looking at moving away from reseller hosting to my own dedicated box. Its not so much that I have a huge amount of clients, I just want to be able to customise everything MY way.
If I get a box with WHM / CPanel, it acts as a web, sql, mail and primary NS. But if I have no second box, is it possible to install another copy of Bind and have it setup as a slave name server? Have it listen on a seperate IP, and tell WHM that that IP is a slave NS?
I am aware of the downside of doign this, if the box goes down for an extended period then domains can stop resolving. My idea is to (eventually) but another box and have mail & slave NS moved to that box - using the slave IP - so it should be an easy move.
My alternative is to use my test FreeBSD box I have in my office as a slave NS but it is running off a DSL connection - so speed could be an issue.
What are your thoughts on this?
