Exim - host_reject_connection

Quick question...

In my exim conf I have

host_reject_connection = /etc/reject_senders.txt

(I know this option is obsolete now but it should still work since it is backward compatible and it is easier than setting up an ACL.)

And in /etc/reject_senders.txt I have

*.spammer.com
*.spammer2.com
*.spammer3.com

etc.

I am able to restart the exim daemon without any syntax or configuration errors. However, mail delivery does not function at all. All emails sent to the server are bounced with a

421 Unexpected failure, please try later

message.

It works fine if I do

host_reject_connection = *.spammer.com : *.spammer2.com : *.spammer3.com

(Problem with this is I have way too many to list and would hate to have to restart exim every time I make a change to the reject list.)

Any ideas? Maybe my understanding of the syntax for this host list is incorrect.

Thanks for your help! Exim - host_reject_connection
