[Gaming] FreeBSD + HLDS ping spikes.

I have a server located in NAC's datacenter in NJ (http://www.nac.net/). http://cs-servers.com/ also has gameservers in NAC as well. I ping to NAC 12-13ms all the time (not in game, just physcial ping via cmd prompt.).

When I connect to CS-SERVER.COM's servers, I get a constant 13-19 ping *in-game*, but when I connect to my server, I'm getting pings of: lowest - 21, highest - 45. It keeps spiking between 21 and 45 every couple of seconds (about 20-30 maybe?). It never stays still. In CS-SERVER's though, it's steady 13-19 and I don't think I've seen it go past 19.

Both our servers are in the same datacenter and pinging both cs-servers.com's server and mine are 12-13ms when done via cmd-prompt.

Do you have any ideas why my ping is so much higher in mine? I'm running FreeBSD 4.10 with linux_base-8 and it is a fresh install of FreeBSD - no Apache, Email, or FTP services are running on it. And there's no other players on the server besides me to test it, so that can't be the reason for the ping spikes. I'm running the command:

screen ./hlds_run -game cstrike +ip 64.21.131.104 -port 27015 +map de_dust -autoupdate +mapchangecfgfile "server.cfg" +maxplayers 14

as well as trying -pingboost 1, 2, and even 3 and neither of them seem to help in my case.

Does HLDS just not like FreeBSD? Or what?
