Mail Server 'Cluster' Setup
Hi all,Just looking at ways to spread the load out from my mailservers a bit...
Currently have 2 MX servers, and 1 SMTP server running sendmail and QPopper as
the POP3 daemon.
At the minute we have it as so:
Internet
| | |
MX1 MX2 SMTP1
However, the loads on the MX servers seem to jump about a bit, and the mailq's
get pretty messy.
What I'm thinking of implementing is the following:
Internet
| | |
SMTP SMTP SMTP
| | |
MX1 MX2
So that the machines labelled MX1/MX2 have only a POP3 demon running, and MTA
only accepting connections from the bank of SMTP servers. I believe this will
also enable me to filter out a fair bit of spam at the edge before it is
passed through, and that the mailq's currently on MX1/MX2 would be dealt
with by the bank of SMTP servers.
Any thoughts, recommendations or real life experience if your willing to share
would be greatfully received!
Best Regards,
Steve Wright
