why my apache crashes 6+ times a day?

My apache frequently crashes, most probably because of the high traffic websites which i host on it. I think i server approximately 2million impressions a day on the server. However there is hardly any load on mysql.

i'm still quite unsure why apache crashes so much. Is there a way for me to tweak apache so it can handle large traffic websites?

my server:
- p4 3.0ghz with HT technology, 1 gb of ram (from tomsyer)

apache crashed 9 times within a few hours.

It's quite weird.. one minute server load would be something like 0.08 and most of the time it's at about 0.5, but then all of a sudden it shoots up to 5+

can someone tell me how to fix this? Am i supposed to rebuild apache? (sorry i'm a newbie with dedicated servers)
