Charter and Static IP Addresses, HELP!
I recently signed a contract with Charter Communications for Cable Internet service at my business in preparation for getting my webhosting server up and running (RedHat 9.0). I want to run a webserver with the DirectAdmin contol panel. Now for the problem:I need multiple IP addresses on the server interface because, first, I will be running DNS on the server and therefore need 2 IP addresses (ns1 and ns2) on the server. Second, most of the sites will be name-based and run off of the same IP, but any site requiring SSL will have a separate IP. So this is another reason I need multiple IP addresses on the same server interface. The problem is that the tech support guy at Charter says that they assign their static IP's according to MAC address and cannot assign more than 1 IP address to the same MAC address!!! Now I don't know what to do. My question here is:
Does anyone else here deal with Charter? Do they allow multiple IP addresses on your server. I'm asking this in the hope that the tech support guy I talked to doesn't know what he's talking about. I need some input on this because I need my server up and running ASAP. Am I out of luck with Charter or is there a chance?
Also, I cannot use port forwarding behind a NAT/Firewall because DirectAdmin requires a public IP on the interface of the server for licensing issues.
Please Help.
