tomcat error on winxp with apache 2

when i run %catalina_home%bin\startup this happens.
The JAVA_HOME environment variable is not defined correctly
This environment variable is needed to run this program
Using CATALINA_BASE: C:\dellserver\software\Tomcat
Using CATALINA_HOME: C:\dellserver\software\Tomcat
Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: C:\dellserver\software\Tomcat\temp
Using JAVA_HOME: C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_05cannot find the file -dsun.io.useCanonCaches=false


Any idea what might be wrong. Ive also installed the connector for tomcat and apache.
