Need Script Info and Advice on Failover Plan

I am going to go to a Dedicated Server, and I wanted a cheap sort of failover plan to help get some users to my site if my server goes down and it takes me a while to get off of work to fix it.

I was thinking of using a 3rd party DNS with Failover service, I would then get a shared host, that I would have a mirror of my site of. I know that the failover service with a short TTL like a minute or two or even less, will not move all people to the new IP since some DNS use caching. So is that a viable option?

Second, the code of my site that I want to backup does not change too often, since it is a dymanic site. I wanted one script to backup the database and ftp to the new site and then a separate script to upload the backup database on a daily basis. I have seen script that I can backup and ftp the backup, but have not seen any to upload the backup. Now does this seem to workable solution also.

I know this plan is not full proof, I am just looking for something, to kind or sorta keep my site up and running, in between any downtimes until I can get to or have my dedicated hosting company fix the server or rebuild from a backup.

Thanks in advance for any help
