Separate IP for mail

I know that if your customers (users on your server) start spamming your DC or provider can either whitch off your box or even ban your IP ...

Ok the switching off, of the box I can handle, a phone call will fix that, however the banned IP is a problem.

My solution to this is a simple one .. I think ....

Could you locate your email pop and smtp servers on different IPs to that of your main site/ns/customers ... even if they on the same physical box ...

would this help ... I mean no email is much better then no service ?


If this is possible could someone shed some light on how to do it ?
