Can't connect to local MySQL server

i just had linex box FDR Core 3 days ago and i start useing it but from the 1st day i had problem with mysql and exim
the Memory Used always over 50%
got in all site's running mysql DB this massage
Warning: mysql_pconnect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2 )

any advice how to solve this problem out
