"IMAP vs webmail" review
first off, this is NOT a thread that "IMAP vs POPx", instead, comparing these 2 isn't a clever idea..see below===============================
despite some stupid webmail software that uses IMAP to fool around (this is a really stupid idea)
i see "real" webmail has eveyrthing (and even more) that IMAP provides and most importantly it is (http protoco) extremely portable, powerful and scalable than imap protoco (not going to prove here)
y do ppl still consider imap is a "cool" technology? i believe its all about marketing..
as http protoco is widely used, web servers market is dominated (at least >=half in %) by open source and free Apache
young programmers find it very easy to write & distribute free webmail (surely web-based) scipts vs daemon in socket programming
yet more, browsers generally come free with OSs...
some desktop software makers find it hard to make profit for email related stuff based on http anymore, they are increasingly inspired by $$soft's frontpage and mXXXXmedia's author approaches to make some more bucks
by simple calculation (a 1+1=2 alike), they double their earnings by selling software needed to run on both server and client side
how do they "fine tune" the market so that "webmail based on another protoco" gets accepted? the clever idea is to not compete IMAP w/ webmail (this is like s.p.a-m vs ham)
"IMAP vs POPx" seems a better marketing trick to be accepted....

this is my personal view of such "revolutionary" technology
sorry for my poor english, i just typed what i thought about my doubts
thanks
