Minimizing downtime: moving to a new server and NS.

Im with Server Matrix, the network is great btw, but i need a more powerful box than my current and in S.M. getting a new one is cheaper than upgrading my current.

For some reason they dont let me keep my current ip addresses, and i host my own Name Servers, so when the NS ip changes, im going to be down for 1-3 days while the DNS update takes place.

I have an idea but i dont know if it would work.

If i get an account on a DNS hosting provider so they host a copy of my current DNS zones, and make the change at my registrar _now_ before my current server goes Offline to their (the DNS hosting provider) Ip addresses. While the NS changes propagate, everything keeps working sweet and smooth because both are hosting the same copy of the DNS zones and both are online. Right?

When the new server comes online i change the records of my zone at the DNS hosting provider to point to the new server ip addresses, thats instant, at most should take a few minutes for the DNS to expire for some people. Then setup my local NS and change again the IP address at my registrar to my new server IP addressess.

Would this work and mean no downtime due to NS?

TIA,
Apocalypse
