need expert tech advice on starting a "World Class" hosting Service

I'm researching the minimum requirements that a data center needs to run a world class hosting service. My questions are as follows:

1) What is the minimum gateway dual-bandwith required to run a continueously smooth service?

2) lets say we're getting 10 servers with the following specs:
- Dual Xeon 2.8 w/HT
- 4 GIGs of ECC Registered RAM
- Primary HD: 146GB SCSI
- Secondary HD: 146GB SCSI
- RAID 1
- RedHat Linux Enterprise v3
- Control Panel (still undecided - leaning toward Plesk 7 reloaded)
the questions here are:
A) What type of additional hardware do we need to run a highly secure hosting environment?
B) How do network backups work? FTP or? please elaborate.
C) What about hardware failures? how much stock of each type of hardware should we keep as a minimum for the 10 servers?
D) are there things that Im missing?
