redundant mail server Cpanel and Exim

We would like to offer a backup mail service for people running their own mail servers over ADSL/cable etc, I found this thread : http://forums.cpanel.net/showthread.php?t=26000 which says about using Exim, would this work also if we ran another copy of exim on a differnet port?

So our first copy of Exim would run the mail accounts for our customers on the server, the second copy would only have details for backup customers?
