My lawyer says Awstats violates Patriot Act - help please
A little background. We run DirectAdmin servers, wth an Awstats plugin (server wide install) of Awstats - that lets any client go to their domain/awstats and find their stats nicely listed. Works great, never an issue. My attorney, who's also a client, emailed my this:
The Patriot Act affects how you disclose information about your customers, and visitors to their websites.
Therefore, it is my opinion that offering statistical information on the visitors, activities or number of visitors would be a violation of this Act, unless such statistics are locked under password protected directories, or installed directly by the customer.
In your current configuration, it would appear that you are in violation of the USA Patriot Act of 2001, further ammended 2004. I will continue to research this issue on your behalf, but am obligated to advise you that you should cease providing this information until it has been formally answered
Thanks for your help
Joe
