SSL Question? Who resells?
I am pretty new to SSL and CA.I bought a GeoTrust SSL Cert recently from EV1Servers, but the issuer on the Cert. is actually Equifax Secure Inc.
Then i found out that quite a few Mobile Phones do not have GeoTrust root certificate installed. Whenever i use my Nokia 7610 or Sony Ericsson k500i to browse the site, it kept on telling me that it is an unautorized certificate. Very annoying!
I tried Sony Ericsson T616 and T68i, both doesn't complain because they don't have any Trusted Certificate stored in the phone memory, so they accept any SSL cert.
Then i proceed in looking through what type of certificate is actually available on these phones. I found the following to be common between Nokia and Sony Ericsson.
1) Baltimore Cyber Trust Root
2) GTE Cyber Trust Global Root
3) Entrust.net Secure Server Certification Autority
4) Verisign Class 3 Public Primary Certificate Authority - G2
There are alot more other CA supported by Nokia and Sony Ericsson separately but these are the common ones between them.
The Baltimore i am not sure because in the Sony Ericsson k500i, it says Baltimore but the CN=GTE Cyber Trust Root. and that GTE is not supported by k500i. So i am incline to believe that 1) and 2) might not be trust-worthy in the sense that mobile phones supports them.
So that leaves Entrust.net and Verisign to be supported by Mobile Phones.
Are there any Entrust.net or Verisign resellers, reselling 3) or 4)?
or are these typically more expensive than other SSL?
I checked Entrust.com for its Standard SSL pricing and found that it is $149/year which is $20 cheaper than GeoTrust's QuickSSL at $169/year. I got mine for $49/year so it is considered to be quite cheap from a reseller.
VeriSign is the most expensive $349/year for Secure Site and $895/year for Secure Site Pro.
Then the confusion begins with VeriSign SSL Certs. on the Nokia 7610. There are
VeriSign Class 1 Public Primary Certificate Authority-G2
VeriSign Class 1 Public Primary Certificate Authority-G2
VeriSign Class 1 Public Primary Certificate Authority
VeriSign Class 2 Public Primary Certificate Authority-G2
VeriSign Class 2 Public Primary Certificate Authority-G3
VeriSign Class 2 Public Primary Certificate Authority
VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary Certificate Authority-G2
VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary Certificate Authority-G3
VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary Certificate Authority
VeriSign Class 4 Public Primary Certificate Authority-G2
VeriSign Class 4 Public Primary Certificate Authority-G3
Question is "What's the difference?" and what type of certificate do you get from purchasing the "Secure Site" package at $349/yr?
Anyone care to enlighten me on this SSL cert issue, please.
