APF deny.host file question

In APF, in the deny.hosts file... i've been adding IP addresses that keep coming up as "illegal user" in my root / logwatch emails from my server.
It works for that IP, but its like every week there is another IP hitting the server with stupid user/password combos. Not like they're getting in, but I'd like to try and further block them.

Now, I did get an IP that when I ran whois on Nic.com got this:
Request: 148.244.79.145
inetnum: 148.244/16

I know APF has like 148.244.79.0/145 or something, but I've gotten ones that are 148.244.79 and then 148.244.68. So to me it seems like the same IP range? So i'd like to try and stop that whole thing if I could or at least get further info about it from you guys.

So can I ban a range of IP's like it says in the whois query? (148.244/16 instead of 148.244.79.145)
