Backup Solution questions
I want to start of with a thank you for the excelent resource. I'm new to this forum, but I've heard lots of good things about the community here. Any way on to my question.
I'm researching Backup solutions both for a web hosting company I work with as well as for the servers in a tech school computer lab I help manage. In my searches I've come across a couple solutions:
1. shell script that tars and zips directoris and then sends them via scp to the storage server. this is what I'm currently using at one of the sites, but want to get away from it.
2. The Amanda backup system for Unix. From the research I've done this far it looks to be a stable backup system. I'm leaning away from this solution because it seems like it has a very high learning curve, and it doesn't play well with Windows. It also seems to be somewhat archaic, but I'm still open to the solution.
3. Bacula, this is the one that I am most pleased with. Though it is a fairly new project (started in 2002), it seems to be very feature rich and robust with a fairly low learning curve. It also does ok backing up Windows systems.
So there is my current situation and what I'm looking into. I'm really just looking for input about these solutions or any others that I'm not aware of. Have any of you used Amanda or Bacula?
