MySQL performance

I've been editing/optimizing my MySQL configuration, and now suddenly the load is much higher than normal and I keep getting "too many connections" errors without more activity on the site.

The server is an Dual Xeon 2.4GHz with 1GB RAM running cPanel/WHM.

Below is my MySQL configuration, anyone have any clues what might be the problem, or how the configuration can be more optimized?
