Linux Kernel 2.6 stability?
I've recently gotten a request from a customer to downgrade his Fedora Core2 kernel to 2.4, for 'stability reasons'. In my experience, the 2.6 kernel has been solid, and I've had no stability issues with it across hundreds of servers. He is claiming it is a well-known problem, and this is the first such claim I've received.I'm curious about opinions from other hosters; is there some stability issue with the 2.6 kernel that I'm unaware of? Is 2.4 still preferred, even on Fedora Core2?
