Problem with apache / Dual xeon
I am running apache 1.3.33 on Debian. My server is only serving images (no html, ...) and I noticed that it freezes up for 30 seconds every 2-3 minutes.
If I tail -f the access_log and watch it, every 2 minutes the apache server stops taking request, the tail of the access log stops scrolling and the load average jumps up to 20-30-40 from ~1-2.
The whole server seems to stop.
I can only do basic console commands and get any response from the server. Then 30 seconds later the access_log tail -f scrolls by a big log of traffic and apache takes requests again.
I can't find anything in the error logs or a process taking up the system.
I don't know what else to check..
The server is a Dual Xeon 2.8 ghz, 2 Gb RAM, SCSI HD. I previously had a P4 2 ghz with 1,5 Gb RAM and didn't experience this kind of problems

I'm really desperate.
Thanks for your suggestions
