Running everything through a *BSD firewall / gateway / load balancer

I'm thinking about setting up our network like this:

I want to setup a server that everything on our network will pass through.

This gateway/firewall/load_balancer box would be something like a a Dual P3 800mhz CPU, 1gig memory, server class motherboard with server class gigabit NIC cards....

The network it would be hosting would initially be used only for our own projects generating about 300 megabits per second of traffic across 12 servers or so.

One of our requirements is load balancing of a few of the servers on the network. We plan to use PEN for this. (sorry, can't link yet... google 'pen load balancer' for info)

Essentially this box will serve primarly as a firewall and load balancer.

Anyway I'm just curious if anyone has any experience with such a setup -- especially at the traffic rates were talking about (~300mbits a sec)
