When is a mailing list too large for a shared hosting server?

I realize the question has dependencies on server hardware/software. However, you may be able to lend some advice from prior experience. This is in regard to a cpanel server.

Even though this year we will be working on our 7th year, we have not hosted a mailing list of over 17,000 addresses. To me, that is a large list. I am sure many of you have hosted much larger.

We have been contacted by a company for hosting. The company says it has double opt-in leads with first name, last name, email address, and IP address. The catch (as I see it)? The list has over 80,000 email addresses. They want to send once per week.

As many of you, I sincerely hate spam. I have done look-ups, searches, etc. on the potential client's domain. I can not find even one complaint of spam, even though there are many positive references to them.

My next concern is what a sending of 80,000 email will do to the server, as far as load and such. I am concerned that the other 200-250 accounts on the server will suffer. What are your thoughts?
