VPS Security

Hiya I have been concerned in the past few weeks about the security on my server.

I have therfore e-mailed the NOC to find out what iam actually reposible for and this is what they said.

The server is as secure as it can get in terms of the OS and the kernel.
The software you choose to run on your server is your responsibility, as
far as keeping it up to date and patched.

I can't recommend any particular firewall for you, but I can tell you that
a fairly popular firewall called APF is incompatible with a VPS. The use
of 'iptables' is usually sufficient. There's plenty of information out
there on how it works.

If you're using PHP, make sure you're running 4.3.10

If you running forums, bulletin boards (especially phpBB), images
galleries or anything of the sort, make sure they are up to date.
I have looked in cpanel and these are the versions on my box.

Operating system Linux
Kernel version 2.4.20-021stab022.11.777-enterprise
Apache version 1.3.33 (Unix)
PERL version 5.8.4
PHP version 4.3.9
MySQL version 4.0.22-standard
cPanel Build 9.9.8-STABLE 6
Theme cPanel X v2.5.0

Also i would like to get some advice on tightening the security on this box if someone could help me.

Thanks
Rich
