For what reasons would I not be able to telnet out from server on port 25?
I am fairly newbish with linux servers, so please bear with me.
I have a VPS I just signed up for with godaddy.com (please, no flames about godaddy), using the Plesk control panel.
However, I am unable to get the smtp server (qmail) to send email out to remote hosts, with an error message saying that qmail wasn't able to establish a SMTP connection.
Narrowing down the problem, I have found that I can't telnet from my VPS to a remote host on port 25. As reference, I try connecting to the server mail.silcon.com, since I can sucessfully create a SMTP connection to that machine from my windows computer at home using telnet with no problem. But when I try to telnet to mail.silcon.com from my VPS, I receive the error message "No route to host." DNS seems to work fine, as telnet does display the correct IP associated with the domain.
Some other notes:

I can successfully telnet to remote servers on other ports from my VPS, such as port 80
I have no problem creating a SMTP connection from a remote host (such as my windows machine) to my VPS.
I have no problem sending mail internally to myself.
My VPS has a reverse DNS entry
My VPS firewall does not have any restrictions
I've exhausted my google finding skills. From my searching, people often get the "No route to host" when there is an ISP firewall in place. Someone also metioned that this could be caused by the SMTP server not being able to process MX records properly.
Any help would be quite welcomed
