Need help recovering cPanel sites

Apparently my VPS was copromised leaving the cpanel/OS in a non bootable state. The good folks at VPSColo have formatted my VPS and attached the compromised drive as /backup.

Now, I can see all the accounts in the /backup/home directory. However, how do I get all these accounts back to the main /home directory? Do I have to create all the accounts on the new drive and then simply copy the entire account directory from the backup drive overwriting to the main /home directory? If this is so, what would be the right command to use in SSH for copying.

Or is there another way to do this?
