Large number of 404 or 403's problem.

Hi people I just want to bounce a recent problem off you guys as Im far from an expert in these matters.

Basically I have just changed webhosts to one that provided decent logging features. Then I put in a nameserver change for the domain. About 30 mins after doing this I decided to check the new hosts logs and I noticed hundreds of repeated page requests for a php script I had once hosted over a year or so ago. I decided to deny all access to this script with a .htaccess file, and have also considered making a blank (0 byte) script and removing the block. I then went to sleep. When I got up a few hours later I had over 40k 403's from over 15k different IP's. This has me worried as the nameservers havent even finished updating so I would hate to think how many I will get when the have finished.

My worry is that this is going to have a noticable impact on my bandwidth and server resources (also a consideration as im on a shared hosting package). I contacted the host and all the said was if you run out of bandwidth buy more. So im asking for sugestions for what I can do or if I am just worried about nothing. The worst case I've considered is that I will have to give up my domain name but I really dont want to do that.

Oh before anyone asks what script I was running it was a bittorrent/tracker site I hosted upon request for a friend and had taken down a long time ago and never intend to put back up. Yes I know this was a mistake upon my part but I have tried to do the right thing since and learn from it.

Anyway any help or sugestions would be greatly apreaciated.
