At my wit's end with email
I've sat here for 2 hours looking through 12 pages of related posts and I'm still stuck where I was. The main problem is I couldn't understand what half the people were talking about. I'm new to a dedicated server and I don't understand complex telnet, ssh, etc commands. I do know what they are, but not much more.(note that I'm editing out any IP/domain info. This is a new site I'd like to keep under my hat until it's launched).
Using WHM/cPanel.
I'm having some issues getting email to send or receive through my mail server. I have rdns setup. DNSReport.com detects the rdns fine:
PASS
Reverse DNS entries for MX records
OK. The IPs of all of your mail server(s) have reverse DNS (PTR) entries. RFC1912 2.1 says you should have a reverse DNS for all your mail servers. It is strongly urged that you have them, as many mailservers will not accept mail from mailservers with no reverse DNS entry. Note that this information is cached, so if you changed it recently, it will not be reflected here (see the www.DNSstuff.com Reverse DNS Tool for the current data). The reverse DNS entries are:
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.in-addr.arpa server.mydomain.com. [TTL=3600]

Mail FAIL Connect to mail servers ERROR: I could not complete a connection to any of your mailservers!
mydomain.com: Timed out [Last data sent: [Did not connect]]
If this is a timeout problem, note that the DNS report only waits about 30 seconds for responses, so your mail may work fine in this case but you will need to use testing tools specifically designed for such situations.

When I try to send out I get (in OE):
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'support@mydomain.com', Server: 'mail.mydomain.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
My MX record is set to mydomain.com (I've also tried mail, mail.mydomain.com as well as the hostname. Nothing works).
I'm on Comcast, and I've even tried changing everything over to port 26 for SMTP, with still no luck.
I'd be happy just figuring out where my incoming email is going and how to get it, but I'd like to get both working.
Any help to get this resolved would be truly appreciated as this new site has been delayed long enough and I have certain companies I'm associated with breathing down my neck.
