How do most people configure their streaming server such as shoutcast, icecast, etc? Do you leave it running as a background process? Do you allocate time slots and share a common port or broadcast on different ports for each customer? How do you handle configuration management? I assume if you broadcast on different ports that these are basically dedicated ports and the configuration is specific to the port, but what about shared ports? Do you use different config files for each dj with different settings? Do the resources work with quotas or does something specific need to be setup? Are there any management tools or methods commonly used for this?
