SpamAssasin Issue

I'm having a problem with spamd crashing on one of my servers - this problem has been going on for months. I've talked to my NOC, and despite their working dillegently to try and correct the problem, it's been going on 4 months now and I'm starting to get extremely frustrated.

This server has RedHat Enterprise instead of Fedora Core, which is the only difference from my other servers, which all run fine. They're all running CPanel/WHM. CPanel will email and let me know that spamd crashed, and will attempt the restart, and the restart will not take. It is sometimes down for hours with many messages having been emailed about the crash.

When I log in and restart it manually, I get an error the first time:

Shutting down spamd: [ OK ]
Starting spamd: Could not create INET socket on 127.0.0.1:783: Address already in use (IO:SpamAssasin Issueocket::INET: Address already in use)
[FAILED]

and when I do it immediately a second time, it restarts just fine - until the next spamd crash.

The NOC thought that it was a memory problem, we added another stick, and nothing happened. No one there seems to have any idea why this is happening, or how to fix it.

I'm at the point of turning spamassasin off and moving folks using it to a different server (the server is the only one with ASP as well) even though that's really not a solution that's very palatable, but I wanted to find out if anyone had ever seen this before and had an idea of anything that could be causing this.

Thanks.
