New to Linux/SSH, need to update PHP, where to start?
I've had shared hosting the past few years and now have a 'virtual' dedicated server running linux and PLESK, so now I'm responsible for updating and adding components. Unfortunately godaddy gave me a server that has PHP 4.2.2. installed and I've learned that since the release of this version there has been 3 years of bug fixes and improvements. A script I need to install requires atleast 4.3 so I absolutely need to update PHP.
So far all of the tutorials I've found online talk about installing multiple components, ie - mysql,php,apache,zlib,open ssl,mod ssl,open ssh ( wow
)If I'm just interested in updating my php, what path would you guys recommend taking? Any online resource? I'm new to all of this and I've been pulling my hair out cause there is so much info to take in, where do you I start?
